The Medical and Health Sciences Department of the Saudi Arabian Cultural Bureau in Canada oversees one of the largest postgraduate scholarship programs for medical students in the world, namely knows as the Saudi Postgraduate Medical Program in Canada. It is aimed at attracting and assisting highly qualified Saudi doctors to apply to the various residency and fellowship programs in Canada to assist them in gaining valuable clinical skills and exposure to outstanding Canadian heath facilities.
The Sponsored Doctors’ Department consists of two dedicated teams. The Admissions Placement Officers’ Team who specialize in medical programs at the residency, subspecialty and fellowship levels and the Academic Advisors Team who is committed to enriching the trainees’ experience and easing the transition to life in Canada by providing the following services:
Placement support,
Academic monitoring and advice,
Dependent training follow-up,
Contact with sponsors in Saudi Arabia,
English language training, and
Financial management of all training aspects.
Since 2014, the Admission Team and the IT Department at the Bureau collaborated on designing an online portal for all applicants wishing to submit applications for residency and fellowship. This system is called MAS (Medical Application System).
Each applicant must complete both parts of the application and upload all the mandatory documents, including the official nomination letter as per the format designed by SACB’s Medical Admission Team. Once this step is complete, the designated placement officer shares the application link with the medical schools that offer the desired program and will follow through until a position offer is granted or application declined. Steps within the process are documented on MAS including interview invitations, dates and locations. visa and offer letters.

The admission team does a superb job at matching the qualified medical applicants to the best programs across Canadian medical schools and their affiliated teaching hospitals. This service extends beyond the acceptance phase to reporting on the physicians’ academic and clinical progress while in Canada and looking after all aspects of their personal welfare as well as that of their accompanying family members.
